Planning for 2014

In January, this picture of a baby pygmy elephant reaching out to its dead mother in Gunung Rara Forest Reserve Sabah went viral.

Like climate change and other markers off ecological degradation, this was another (heartbreaking) example of the clash between natural and human systems.

Ecological degradation and natural habitat loss are huge issues for us in Malaysia, and we will be looking into this wider topic during the first half of 2013.

In February we take a look at the Malayan tiger as a keystone or indicator species of ecological health!

In March we have Lucy Emerton, an ecological economist, coming to explain how putting a dollar value on ecosystem services is beginning to make a change in the way decisions are being made.

In April and May, we look at the 'clash of economics' with a couple of films exploring why mainstream economic thinking is getting us further away from where we need to be.  In April - a film exploring what the economy is for... made by an economist who worked for the World Bank and Greenpeace (not many of those around!), and in May, a film exploring our obsessive addiction to growth.

In June, we look at the kind of educational background we would need to cope with 21st century living.

In the second half of the year, we will concentrate on some of the initiatives taking place in Malaysia aiming to make a significant impact on the challenges that face us.

Green Drinks is ALWAYS (unless it really can't be helped) on the last Tuesday of the month... at the same place (see map below) and time!

It is social as it is informative... and its safe to bring your friends!
